 How to Prepare a Manuscript Proposal Step-by-Step

1.

Inclusion of a JHS Investigator as a member of the writing group is required.

2.

Exam 1 variables can be viewed by clicking Exam 1 Manuals, then Exam 1 Analysis Manual

3.

The Data Dictionary for Visit 1 (Exam 1) Forms can be viewed by clicking on Exam 1 Forms, then on the form.

4.

The list of current JHS publications can be viewed.

5.

The lead author:

 

5.1

Initiates the Manuscript Proposal Form.

 

5.2

Prepares a list of co-authors and their commitments of responsibility to the manuscript and writing process.

 

5.3

Obtains the signatures of co-authors indicating they have read and are in agreement with the manuscript proposal.

 

5.4

May opt to submit the manuscript proposal on-line; and login

 

5.5

Is responsible for assuring that all elements of the proposal have been completed in full prior to submission. A complete set of P&P Guidelines is available.

 

5.6

Is responsible for submitting the proposal to the Chairperson of the Publications and Presentations  (P&P) Subcommittee, Dr. Nimr Fahmy fahmyn@comcast.com and the Administrative Coordinator  Dr. Brenda Campbell Jenkins brenda.w.campbell@jsums.edu  by the first day of the month.

 

5.7

Is responsible to follow-up on the recommendations by the P&P subcommittee. If “accepted pending revisions” he/she must address the requested revisions in the proposal and in a cover letter addressed to the P&P Chair within 30 days of the date on the notification letter. If the proposal is to be “reconsidered after revisions” he/she must revise the proposal addressing each required revision and resubmit it along with a cover letter within 30 days of the date on the notification letter.

6.

Following approval of the manuscript proposal, the lead author:

 

6.1

Completes a Data Materials and Distribution Agreement (DMDA) in order to obtain approval to  receive JHS data.

 

6.2

Signs and submits a JHS Data Sharing Agreement.

 

6.3

Accesses the e-JHS guidelines to order specific data

 

6.4

May request data analysis by the JHS by completing a Statistical Computing Request.  The other option is to analyze one’s own data.

 

6.5

Has 2 years to convert the manuscript proposal into a manuscript
